Building Plate Rack

Plate rack is a perfect organizational tool for keeping plates and dishes in various shapes and sizes neatly organized. No longer will get you juggle rising dishes on top to get to that special plate on the underside. Your plate rack will keep them separated and easy to reach at any time. Building a DIY plate rack you can fit this function for your specific cabinet dimensions at the same time ensures that you only have room for every dish in the collection.

Measure the width and height of the inside of your cabinet. Determine how many times you want your plate rack to keep and how much space will be needed for each one. The plates should be able to sit vertically in racks with just enough space for you to get them in and out, but not so much that they are inclined at a steep angle. Purchase two wooden rails which measure the length of the inside of the cabinet and of an inch thick for the top and bottom of the rack. These will simply provide a small lip over and under the plate storage space.

Buy enough 5/16-inch control rods to separate your plates. The length of the bars should be equal to the height of the cabinet. Measure the length of each rail and make a light pencil mark indicating the location of each dowel rod. Make sure that the marks on both rails line up perfectly. Push the rack in your cupboard and slide forward or backward easily use a nail in each corner of the piece to fasten it to the cabinet shelves above and below.
